SAN DIEGO -- In his third big league game, Rymer Liriano showed off his raw power in one of the more impressive ways possible at Petco Park. Lirianos first big league homer was a two-run shot that helped the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 Wednesday to tie their season-high with their fifth straight win. It travelled an estimated 427 feet and landed in the top deck of the Western Metal Supply Co. brick warehouse in the left-field corner. "It felt great," said Liriano, who was promoted from Triple-A El Paso on Monday. "I felt excited when I crushed the homer." That, he did. It was the 14th homer hit to the top balcony of the Western Metal building since Petco opened in 2004, and the eighth by a Padres player. "Third level Western Metal, thats always a good one," manager Bud Black said. "I like the fact he got to an inside fastball. The Rockies the first two days got him with some fastballs in. He turned on that one. We know that hes got the raw power. That showed up today on a fastball from a pitcher that was pitching inside pretty effectively all day. That was good to see." Said Liriano: "I feel really comfortable when I get a fastball in. Im excited. Some people say I dont ever hit a fastball in. I feel really good right now to hit a fastball." Abraham Almonte also homered and Jedd Gyorko tied his career-high with four hits. The Padres are 16-8 since the All-Star break, including winning 11 of 14. The Padres swept a series for the third time this year, all at home. The Rockies, who have the worst record in the majors at 18-44, struck out 13 times against Ian Kennedy (9-10) and four relievers, giving them 66 in their last six games. "Weve been striking out entirely too much lately," manager Walt Weiss said. "Its about competing when you get to two strikes." Lirianos shot came off left-hander Tyler Matzek (2-Cool and gave San Diego a 3-1 lead. Chris Nelson was aboard on a leadoff single. Almonte homered to left with one out in the sixth, his first since being acquired in a trade with Seattle on July 31. "The one to Liriano, I thought it was a good pitch," Matzek said. "He turned on it. It looked like he was sitting on that pitch. The one to Almonte, I was trying to go away and left it over the middle. That was probably a mistake pitch. He made me pay for it." Kennedy struck out eight in six innings while allowing three runs and six hits, with two walks. Joaquin Benoit pitched the ninth for his seventh save in eight chances. The Rockies tied it the score 3-3 in the fourth with a leadoff homer to left by DJ LeMahieu, his fourth, and an RBI double to left by Justin Morneau. The Padres popped back ahead on Yasmani Grandals sacrifice fly in the fifth that brought in Gyorko, who hit a leadoff double. San Diego got a run in the bottom of the first with some help from replay. Yangervis Solarte originally was called out on a grounder to shortstop. Manager Bud Black appealed and the call was overturned, giving Solarte an infield single. He scored on Rene Riveras one-out single. Matzek allowed five runs and eight hits in six innings, struck out a career-high nine and walked two. Gyorko raised his average to a season-high .199. He struggled after signing a $35 million contract extension two weeks into his second season. He later spent 44 games on the disabled list with plantar fasciitis. WHIFFS Padres pitchers set a franchise record for strikeouts in a three-game series with 37. The previous record was 35 during a series at the Chicago Cubs July 22-24. NICE TRY Liriano, the right fielder, almost had the Padres third diving catch into the stands in two games, but couldnt hold onto a foul ball as he tumbled into the seats. On Tuesday night, 3B Chris Nelson and 1B Tommy Medica made nice catches of foul balls while tumbling into the stands. TRAINERS ROOM Rockies: All-Star SS Troy Tulowitzki, leading the majors with a .340 average, will have surgery on his left hip Friday in Vail, Colorado, ending his season. Padres: SS Solarte strained a muscle in his left side making an errant throw in the seventh and was replaced by Alexi Amarista. 1B Yonder Alonso will go on the DL with a right wrist injury. UP NEXT Rockies: LHP Jorge De La Rosa (11-8, 4.34) starts at home Thursday vs. Cincinnati. Hes made nine straight starts of at least six innings. Padres: LHP Eric Stults (5-13, 4.76) has allowed three or fewer runs earned runs in eight of his last nine starts going into his assignment Thursday at St. Louis. Cheap Adidas NHL Jerseys . The Islanders own the fifth pick in the 2014 draft but had until June 1 to decide whether to keep it or defer to 2015. The All Blacks played their best rugby of recent years when they beat South Africa 38-27 in Johannesburg two weeks ago, clinching the Rugby Championships in a match which has been hailed as one of the best ever played. http://www.wholesalejerseysnfl.net/. Subway workers in Rio de Janeiro, meanwhile, were holding an assembly to vote on whether they would strike to demand higher wages, threatening to disrupt transportation. By late Tuesday night there was no announcement of their decision. Jerseys NFL Wholesale . According to a report from ESPN, Lynch wants a new contract from the Seahawks, and will likely skip all off-season workouts until he can renegotiate his deal with the Seahawks. Wholesale China Jerseys . Siddikur, who led on all four days and took a four-stroke lead going into the final day, bogeyed four out of six holes starting at the sixth and continued a forgettable last round in which he returned a three-over 75 to finish with a 14-under 274.ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Albert Pujols added David Prices name to a growing list of pitchers he has homered off during 13 power-packed years in the majors. The three-time NL MVP hit a pair of solo shots against the 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner, and Matt Shoemaker took a shutout into the seventh inning to lead the Los Angeles Angels over the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 Sunday. "This is the same swing Ive been taking the last couple of weeks, and nothing went my way," said Pujols, who ended an RBI drought of nine games and 39 at-bats Saturday night with a run-scoring double. "Today I got some hits, so I was just glad I was able to contribute and help our ballclub win. As long as you stay positive and do the things you need to do and dont try to kill yourself in the cage because youre 0 for 10, youll be fine. Ive been around this game long enough that I know what Im capable of doing." Pujols drove an 0-2 pitch over the centre-field fence in the first inning, then capped the scoring in the seventh with his 12th homer of the season and 504th of his career, tying Eddie Murray for 25th place. "Price is going to throw his game, but we had a game plan and we tried to execute it," said Pujols, who came in 0 for 7 against left-hander. "The same way that we do our scouting report, they do theirs, so he knows how to pitch us. We just needed to make adjustments, and thats what we did. He made a couple of mistakes and we took advantage. With a guy like him, you need to be aggressive, because hes only going to give you one or two good pitches in four at-bats." Price (4-4) became the 319th pitcher Pujols has homered off in the regular season. Price has allowed five homers on an 0-2 count in his career, and Pujols has hit 21 under those circumstances. "Thats where I wanted to throw it, but thats what great hitters do with pitches that are up in the zone," Price said. "Hes one of the best hitters to ever play this game." Shoemaker (2-1) was charged with a run and two hits in six-plus innings. He struck out six, five days after earning his first major league win with a 4-3 victory at Philadelphia. The 27-year-old right-hander was lifted after issuing his third walk, to James Loney leading off the seventh. "Shoe did an outstanding job today, and he did an outstanding job in Philly last week," Pujols said. "Anytime you get a guy like that whos not really a true starter, and he comes up here and helps us wiin a game and a series, its huge.dddddddddddd" Michael Morin relieved Shoemaker with a 5-0 lead and retired his first batter before Kevin Kiermaier hit his first big league homer -- a drive to left that kept carrying until it disappeared in the lower seats in the left-field corner. That ended a career-opening streak of nine scoreless innings by Morin. Price was charged with six runs -- five earned -- and 11 hits in 6 2-3 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. He beat the Mariners 2-1 last Tuesday at Seattle with a complete game. The three-time All-Star, who has allowed no more than one walk in a franchise-record 13 consecutive starts dating to last season, went to a three-ball count on five Angels batters. But hes paid the price for his major league-best strikeout-to-walk ratio. Hes given up 78 hits, tying Philadelphias Cliff Lee for most in the majors. "Thats part of it," Price said. "I want those guys to put the ball in play because I have the utmost confidence in our defence. Youre going to give up your hits sometimes, and sometimes theyre going to be at guys." Howie Kendrick gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-out RBI single in the third, and they increased the margin to 5-0 with three runs in the fourth after Price gave up three straight singles with none out. The third one was a drive by Grant Green over the head of left fielder Matt Joyce, scoring Erick Aybar. "Price is an All-Star, he throws 95-97 (mph), hes got great stuff," Angels catcher Chris Iannetta said. "So you dont try to be overly aggressive, because you can get yourself out on good pitches." Luis Jimenez followed Greens hit with a sacrifice bunt, and two more runs scored when third baseman Evan Longoria booted Collin Cowgills grounder near the bag for his third error of the season. NOTES: Price has allowed at least one home run in eight of his first 10 starts and 11 homers altogether, after giving up just two in his final 83 1-3 innings last season. ... Rays manager Joe Maddon has gotten at least seven innings from his starters in only two of the teams last 25 games -- and Price was the pitcher both times. ... Price caught Cowgill, Mike Trout and Kendrick looking at third strikes in the first inning. ... Despite C.J. Wilsons five-hit shutout Saturday, the Angels have a 4.52 ERA at home compared to 2.88 on the road. ... Pujols has 48 multihomer games and two this season. ' ' '
